Film Description:
In the Sea of Keys: Petaluma Music Education is a 70 minute documentary exposé about the music education department at Petaluma Junior High School in Petaluma, CA. Footage was shot throughout the 2003-04 school year. By filming classroom rehearsals and public performances, we show:
 
·     How music education affects the students' lives individually
·     How music education leads to the creation of unique peer groups and communities
·     How music education relates to and supports other areas of academia
·     How the musicians at PJHS approach and react to public performances
·    How, through public performances, music can be a unifying thread between the students and the community at large in Petaluma; how the kids' performances are an affirmation of their larger community.

Scope of Project:
This film was created with the intention of providing Preston Bailey, music instructor, and the Petaluma Junior High School music department with a fundraising vehicle.
 
Duplications of the film will be made and distributed to parents of the PJHS music students and community at large in Petaluma, CA for payment of $25.00 USD per copy made to the PJHS music department. An audio CD of songs performed publicly by the students will be sold to parents and community at large in Petaluma, CA  for payment of $15.00 USD each. All labor and materials supplied by Spring to Life Films is voluntary and we are receiving no money from the sale of the film. All monies received go directly to the music department at Petaluma Junior High School to benefit the students’ learning. Approximately 50 videos have been pre-sold to date.
